Ugh.

It's just been one of those days.

I went to bed last night with the worst heartburn ever. I had never actually experienced heartburn before pregnancy and I've been getting it off and on now for about a week. It's killer. I hate it. BURNING.... At least Baby was happy. Baby kicked so hard that my stomach popped up by about 3 inches - not even kidding. It was funny.

Today started off okay, but I started getting dizzy while on campus, which was weird. And my lower back has been hurting all day. And now I'm frustrated with my stupid numerical models because they aren't working right and take forever to set up. To top it off, it took me an hour to get home because of traffic and dingbat Houston drivers. The only thing I want to do is stay at home, sleep and do baby related things. I'm done with school. Over it.

I called Derek when I got home (upset, of course) and he made me feel a bit better. He's going to take me out to dinner tonight, then we're going to pick up the crib and put it together. That should make me feel better, I hope! We'll post pictures.

Yay!

OUR CRIB ARRIVED AT THE STORE TODAY!!!!! Yippeeeeeeee!!!

Derek has firefighting training tonight which means he'll be staying in College Station overnight, so we won't get to pick up the crib until tomorrow. We will definitely be taking pictures when we set it up :) I can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!!

Week 29

I know, I know, I'm in trouble. I meant to do this 2 days ago... Oops!

Your baby now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds (like a butternut squash) and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. His muscles and lungs are continuing to matures, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain. To meet his increasing nutritional demads, you'll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid and iron. And because his bones are soaking up lots of calcium, be sure to drink your milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 260 milligrams of calcium are deposited in your baby's hardening skeleton each day.

Baby's energy is surging, thanks to the formation of white fat deposits beneath the skin. (Have those kicks and jobs to the ribs tipped you off yet?) Baby is also settling into sleep and waking cycles, though -- as you've also probably noticed -- they don't necessarily coincide with your own. Also this month, all five senses are finally functional, and the brain and nervous system are going through major developments.

My little squash baby. Baby is super active at night, so Derek gets to feel a ton of movement when we're going to bed. Also in the morning (when Derek gets up at 5:30am). I guess we know Baby will be awake when he leaves for work!

Hmmm, I guess that's about it. As you've probably noticed, we decided to spruce up the blog a bit and change the background. We wanted to add some pizazz, and I think we've accomplished that :)

I'll add a baby bump pic to this post, but it won't be until tomorrow. That will give you something for you to look forward to!

Relaxing weekend with the sisters

Kim and Mikaela came to visit us in Cypress this weekend! We had a good time relaxing - grilling chicken for dinner last night, talking about Baby, going shopping today and having lunch at BJ's Brewery (yum). It was just a short visit since and they went back to College Station shortly after lunch, but it was great to see them!

I've started getting Braxton Hicks contractions, maybe once every few days or so. It's the weirdest feeling! My whole belly gets really hard and feels like it's balling up. Completely painless though, thank goodness. Mikaela got to feel it last night, but by the time Kim came over it had started to relax. I think the fact that Kim's hands were freezing icicles helped relax the belly, haha!

Our Crib!

Renew Standard Crib by Rockland

Here it is, Baby's crib!  We finally bought it and we're so excited.  It has a dropside which will be great for me since I'm... short.  Now we just have to buy the crib mattress, sheets, bumper, etc. etc.  Can't wait until it arrives!

Hormones. What would I do without them?

I had a quick Doctor's appointment today, just for the usual checkup.  The doctor says everything is looking great and I passed my glucose test with flying colors (thank goodness)!  When the nurse came in to take my blood pressure and listen to Baby's heartbeat, she'd barely put the doppler on my belly before Baby's heartbeat was blasting over the speakers.  It's so great to hear how strong and fast it was.  I'll have to get Derek to try listening to my belly with the stethoscope tonight.

Hormone story of the week:
Last night when Derek came home, I was crying on the couch.  Why?  Because I was watching "Quintessential" on Discovery Health and the family was having quintuplets by C-section.  The babies were just the most precious things I'd ever seen - so tiny, with their skinny little arms and legs outstretched.  Seeing how tiny, helpless and miraculous each baby was just made me so excited for the birth of our little Baby, so I started to cry.  Oh, hormones.  Poor Derek must think I'm crazy.

And in terms of Baby updates... I can barely see my feet now unless I tilt forward :)  And I can now feel Baby moving when I'm standing up and walking around.
